META
TAGS ?
May 2003:
Meta tags are used to help the Search
Engines to get an idea of what your page is about,
your main keywords, who built the page, who should
see the page and wether or not to index it all.
They are a very useful Search Engine Optimisation
tool.
Here are a few
as an example.. they live between the <HEAD>
</HEAD> tags.

The <title>
tag describes the title of the page, each page should
have a unique title.
It is important to have the keyword you are trying
to push on that particular page as near to the start
inbetween the title tags as possible.
The "DESCRIPTION"...
outlines the pages information. Again better to
have the keyword you are trying to push on the particular
page, at the start, inbetween the tags.
The "KEYWORDS"
... 8 to 10 keywords, again with the keyword you
are pushing on the page have that keyword as near
the start as possible. It is also important to have
the keywords in the same order as they appear in
the page... for e.g. hawking in the beautiful english
coutryside. the keywords should run 'hawking, english
coutryside.. etc'
The "AUTHOR"
... Author of the original content.
The "COPYRIGHT"
... Who the copywrite belongs to.
"DISTRIBUTION"
... Global or Local
"RATING"
... Adult or General
"ROBOTS"
... This tag tells the search engine spiders to
either to index the page and follow the links on
the page (<META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="INDEX,
FOLLOW">) or to not index (<META NAME="ROBOTS"
CONTENT="NO INDEX">)
